Our life with malamutes began in 1996, when we acquired Krystalmar's Tkaya Tyee, Tkaya, and it was this beginning that led us to be hopelessly addicted to this wonderful, intelligent and affectionate breed.
Spiritrun Registered Alaskan Malamutes began after we welcomed four year-old Ch Keikewabic's Agassiz of Tundra, CAM, ROM, CGC, TT, WPD, Amber, to our lives. She was bred to multiple BIS, BISS A/C Ch Nanuke's Take No Prisoners, ROM, Tyler, who, at the time, was the #2 dog All-breeds in the US, and the Westminster Kennel Club Working Group winner in 1998. Suffice it to say, we had a very fortunate start to our breeding program. We are forever grateful to the invividuals who started us out on the right foot and who continue to guide us to this day.
Our goal is to produce malamutes that exhibit excellent breed type; who are physically and mentally sound; who are capable of performing the original intended functions for the breed; and to place these malamutes in loving homes where they become cherished members of the family. Our goals are designed to preserve and protect the Alaskan malamute breed for future generations to enjoy.
We do not produce a lot of litters, so when we do, every effort goes into planning to ensure the best possible outcome for the dam and her puppies. We breed champion stock in accordance with the AKC/CKC Official Breed Standard for the Alaskan malamute. We strive for constant improvement from one generation to the next and feel very strongly about breeding the whole dog, that is, to take into consideration all facets of a what makes a malamute correct, and to not focus in on strictly one trait (ie, size, colour etc...). Obtaining performance and championship titles allows us the opportunity to present our malamutes to the dog fancy, to measure them against the breed standard and thus validate our efforts. Our breeding practices are in accordance with the Canadian Kennel Club's Code of Ethics and Code of Practice for Breeders, and the Alaskan Malamute Club of America's Code of Ethics.
Our responsiility extends to each dog we produce, that is, that they will live happy, healthy lives and that they will be cared for and loved by the owners we select for them. We take great care in selecting only the best homes for our puppies. Our responsibility extends to our potential adopters, as well, in that we must ensure that the dog will fit their lifestyle. We will not hesitate to steer people towards another breed if we feel that the Alaskan malamute is not the ideal choice of breed for their situation. As breeders, we are committed to each puppy we bring into this world for it's lifetime and will always be prepared to accept it back into our home, regardless of the reason. We do not take our responsibility as breeders lightly. Our puppies and our puppy buyers are dependant on our integrity and our willingness to continue learning and sharing that information. As husband and wife, we are fortunate to share a passion for this breed that has fueled a lifelong commitment.
We are very active in CKC and AKC conformation dog shows and we enjoy many hours riding the runners behind our sled dog teams. With limited breedings, we have produced a number of Canadian and American Champions, Regional and National Specialty winners, Best Puppy in Show winners, multiple Working Group winners and a multiple All-Breed Best in Show winner.
