Tobe was the Canadian Kennel Club's #1 ranked Alaskan Malamute in 2004 & 2005; the Alaskan Malamute Club of Canada's #1 ranked Malamute for 2004, 2005 & 2006. He was Canada's # 9 Working Dog in 2005 and the #5 Working Dog in 2006. Only a handful of Alaskan Malamutes have ever attained Top Ten status in the Working Group in this country. Tobe's achievements have all been attained as a breeder-owner-handler team.
Tobe showed great promise as a yougster while living at Marlayne Kennels in Manitoa. There he attained his CKC Championship as a puppy with multiple Best Puppy In Show wins. He earned his AKC Championship with three consecutive 5-point majors, finishing in style at the 2001 Alaskan Malamute Club of America's National Specialty as Winner's Dog. Tobe won an Award Of Merit at the 2004, 2006 and 2007 Canadian National Specialties. He was Best Veteran at both the 2007 American and Canadian National Specialties. He twice attended the prestigious Show Of Shows, in 2005 and 2006 and he placed 2nd and 4th in the group respectively. He twice won the HealthGene Breeders Match, a multiple judge, scored event, and a feat that was hard to achieve once, let alone twice in a row. The second win being as a veteran! He won the NY/NJ AMCA Area Specialty at Ramapo KC in 2004 and went on to win the Working Group that day.
Tobe appeared at the 132nd Westminster Kennel Club dog show in NYC, 2007. What a thrill for both of us. He did us proud. Click here to view Tobe's Westminster performance (click on Alaskan malamutes, when you get to that page).
Tobe was a sensational show dog with career that can be summed up in one word - longevity. Like the energizer bunny, he just keeps on going. Deservedly enjoying his retirement now, Tobe will be shown selectively at Specialties as a veteran.
Tobe has passed health clearances for hips, thyroid, eyes, chndrodysplasia (available upon request) and is an avid sled dog, too. He can run confidently in single lead, but is powerful in any position on the team. He recently passed his Canine Good Citizen exam and dabbled for a mere moment in a Rally-O ring. He loved it, albeit hammed it up. Perhaps we will pursue it some more.
